The Word Does Not Morph to Fit Your Reality

The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.

Isaiah 40:8

We live in a culture that demands everything adapt to its preferences. But the Word of God is not a living document in the way modern progressives use that term. It does not evolve with cultural trends. It does not morph to fit our comfort.

The Bible said what it said when it was written. It says what it says now. It will say what it says forever. Our job is not to interpret it through the lens of current culture but to allow it to interpret our culture.

This is increasingly unpopular. People want a Christianity that affirms their choices rather than challenges them. They want a Jesus who never offends, never corrects, never calls them to change.

But that Jesus does not exist in Scripture. The real Jesus loved people enough to tell them the truth, even when it was uncomfortable. He forgave the woman caught in adultery—and then told her to go and sin no more. Grace and truth held together.

When we twist Scripture to fit our preferences, we are not being progressive—we are being idolators. We have created a god in our own image rather than submitting to the God who is.

The question is not whether the Bible aligns with modern sensibilities. The question is whether our sensibilities align with Scripture. If they do not, we are the ones who need to change.

This does not mean we interpret Scripture harshly or without context. But context does not mean contradiction. Understanding the original audience does not mean ignoring the timeless principles. The Word endures forever precisely because it transcends any single era.

A Prayer

Father, protect me from the temptation to remake You in my image. Give me humility to submit to Your Word even when it challenges me. Help me to hold truth and love together the way Jesus did. Amen.
